Photo Tour through Morocco

Colorful market stalls with spices from all over the world, beautifully embroidered stools, artistically laid tiles, and epic sunsets behind the dunes…
These were the first things that came to my mind when I thought of Morocco.

When I saw on Instagram that Erik was looking for someone to fly with him to Morocco to take wedding pictures a few weeks ago, I immediately knew: I want to be there!

And so it happened that at the beginning of December, I was sitting on a plane to Marrakech. The first impression of the city was – well – loud, chaotic, and much. “Much” is probably the best description, the many narrow streets of the medina exist only from many market stalls, many small workshops and many hairdressers, everywhere the salespeople have addressed us and wanted us to buy their goods, in addition to the complete sales chaos, there were many people driving scooters through the small streets that were already crowded with tourists anyway, and in between brought the locals their goods to the next market with fully packed donkeys…

The first evening, I was just happy when we arrived at our riad, which was beautiful, just as I imagined, with beautiful colorful floors and a rooftop terrace overlooking Marrakech’s roofs and a view of the Atlas Mountains.

On the second day, I had gotten used to the hustle and bustle and was able to enjoy the medina of Marrakech more, but I was glad that we got our rental car that day and drove out of the city in the direction of Ouarzazate. In the fascinating landscape of red sand and cairns around Ouarzazate, I felt like in another world.

After a sunrise photo session in Ourzazate ( you can see the pictures we took there in this Blog post)and a little tour through the city, we started to drive to Merzouga.

Late in the evening, we arrived exhausted in Merzouga, which is directly at the beginning of the Sahara desert. The next day we packed the wedding outfit and camera equipment into our backpacks and rode on camels through the desert. That was an unforgettable experience. After observing the sunset from a large dune, we rode further and arrived just in time before it got dark at our Bedouin camp by a small oasis in the middle of the Sahara desert. After the traditional Tajine for dinner, we sat around the campfire with the Berbers and listened to their songs. It was a fantastic clear night and unbelievable how many stars you could see out here.

The next morning we walked on a dune where we could admire the sunrise all alone, and in this fabulous scenery, we could take wonderful elopement photos in the Sahara desert of Morocco. (Here you can see the elopement wedding photos)

After breakfast, we rode again on camels back to the riad in Merzouga.

After the packed last days, we enjoyed relaxing at the pool and found an excellent place for our last sunset. The beautiful spot near a large dune was perfect for taking some more wedding photos in the desert before we went back to Marrakech the next morning.

It took us the whole next day to drive back to Marrakech.

On the last day in Morocco, we used to stroll through the medina’s market streets and buy some souvenirs before we had to fly back to Austria and into the snow…
