Mountain Elopement Photographer Mellau, Bregenzerwald, Austria
From far away, you can see the remarkable rock formation of the backyard mountain from Mellau in Vorarlberg. I think there is no other mountain in the valley of the Bregenzerwald about which people wrote more poems, songs, and folk tales.
Not only the sight over this mountain from the valley is stunning, but the view you have from the top of the Kanisfluh is really remarkable. On bright days you can see over the mountains and hills of the Bregenzerwald Valley over the Lake of Constance. Some last sparkling snow patches are often on the surrounding mountain peaks, and the many small villages along the river are always fascinating to look at from above.
You can see alpine wildlife like ibex, chamois, and jackdaws in their natural habitat with a little luck.
I was dreaming of a couple photo session on the top of the Kanisfluh for many years, and we couldn’t have found a better location for Jana Theresa and Stefans romantic mountain pictures. They both grew up at the feet of this remarkable mountain in Vorarlberg.
We picked them up in the afternoon, and together we drove to the start of the hike.
The sun rays shone through the clouds during our ascend to the top and created some fantastic light mood. A few meters before we reached the top, we saw two alpine ibex, which had to be a good sign for our photo session on this unique mountain top in the Bregenzerwald valley.
Adventurous couple and mountain pictures
When we arrived at the top, Jana Theresa and Stefan got changed, and we started with the photo session.
The light changed every few minutes, and we almost could not decide which direction we should use as our backdrop first. The best thing about this location is that we had a fantastic view in every direction around us so we could move around wholly free. The significant benefit of cloudy days is the beautiful soft light, which is perfect for photos, there are no hard shadows, and the sun does not dazzle you, making the photo session even more flexible. We had so much fun during the couple’s photo session. Jana Theresa and Stefan did run around, laughed together, cuddled, and enjoyed the epic view.
romantic couple photos on the mountaintop
Before the first clouds started to turn pink, Jana Theresa and Stefan changed into a fancy outfit. The dreamy red dress from Jana Theresa was a perfect contrast to Nature. It may sound a little bit crazy at the first moment to carry such fancy dresses up to a mountain top, but in my opinion, it is always totally worth it. The contrast between the remarkable alpine landscape of the Kanisfluh and the unique outfit of the couple makes the photos even more special and epic.
Suddenly there was a blast of air coming over the mountain ridge and let Jana Theresa’s dress flow in the wind, making the fairytale-like scenery perfect. When I took this photo, I knew that this would be one of my favorite images of this special couple photo session in Vorarlberg.
Watching the sunset from the top of a mountain is always super special. This evening, no one of us was sure if we will be able to see the setting sun or if this spectacle will be hidden behind the clouds.
When the first orange and red light rays broke through the clouds on the horizon, we were stoked to see this beautiful view.
When we had planned this photo session on the top of this remarkable mountain in Austria, we imagined a clear blue sky and a cheesy orange sunset. But the clouds made the mood of this sunset even better and more unique than we could ever imagine, and the evening couldn’t have been any better.
A few minutes later, the sun even shone through two clouds and made the Lake of Constance in the distance glow in a beautiful red. If I have learned anything in the last years as an elopement and wedding photographer, you usually get the most beautiful sunsets when you least expect it.
I had a super special place in my mind to end this epic photo session on the mountaintop.
Luckily Jana Theresa and Stefan are not afraid of heights and were as excited about the idea to walk out to the “Haehle” rock as I was. The two were standing on the ledge of the rock, surrounded by the sunset’s orange light, and enjoyed the fascinating view over the valley and the Lake of Constance. We captured the last light of the day in this epic location.
Shortly after we took the photos, it started getting dark, and we began to hike down. With headlamps, we made our way back to the car, and we could not wait to see the final photos of this epic couple session.
I love photo sessions at unique locations, and especially if they also have a special meaning for the couple.
When the scenery is as impressive as it was from the top of the Kanisfluh, and when we get surprised by a fantastic sunset, I can hardly believe how lucky I am to experience incredible beautiful moments like this while I am working.
